Football players are well known for their larger then life egos. Many of the games greatest players have been famous for their demeanor on the field. Others are known for their off the field comments and actions. Terrell Owens is famous for both. The star receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles has done some pretty spectacular things in his career.

This season he is ranked 11th in total yards among NFL receivers with 1200 yards and 3rd

in Touchdown catches with 14. This was despite injuring his ankle in a week 15 game

against the Dallas Cowboys. Owens has been the Eagles leading receiver as well as their

most outspoken fan. The week of their NFC Championship game against the Atlanta

Falcons, Owens told reporters, "We are going to the Super Bowl, so don't even doubt it,"

Sure enough the Owens-less Eagles won the game 27 to 10. Owens may not be everyone's favorite receiver, after complaining his way out of both San Francisco and Baltimore, but you can't deny his talent. He has been the spark that the Eagles have lacked the past three years that they've gone to the NFC Championship game. Mere weeks after having two screws and a metal plate inserted into his broken ankle, Owens plans on playing in the super bowl. His ankle injury, which normally takes eight to ten weeks to heal has only had 6 ½ weeks of rest. According to ESPN Owens plans on returning to the field as the Eagles third wide receiver. On January 25th Owens went to his check-up appointment with Dr. Mark Myerson and was not cleared to play in the super bowl. Owens told reporters at a press conference after the visit that, "Spiritually, God

is healing me and I'm way ahead of where a lot of people expect me to be." While Dr. Myerson didn't clear Owens to play, team doctors will have the final say as to whether or not Owens will be on the field. Owens has to prove that he can do three things before he can receive clearance to play. He must first be able to run at full speed, which he demonstrated at a January 29th practice. He must also be able to make cuts while running at full speed, which he has also been able to do. According to Stats.com if he is able to pass the third hurdle, which is to practice with the team, then he will suit up against the Patriots. He is expected to play with the team at their February 2nd practice. It is still unclear whether or not he'll be cleared to play, but Owens would certainly increase the Eagles chances of victory.
