The not-so-serious top ten about being involved at MCC

Anna Lightcap and Amanda Thomas

Issue date: 1/20/05 Section: Entertainment
Welcome all students (new and old) to the joy that is called "college". If this is your first semester, you might be wondering what it is that you can do to help you enjoy this time more than anything else, well...short of going out and getting wasted every night, (despite popular opinion, that is a bad thing). So here I have comprised for you a top ten guide to getting the most out of MCC.

10. It's better than sitting at home and watching "SpongeBob SquarePants" (and get the song stuck in your head) or any re-run of any show that has ever been made. Believe me, they will be there when you get back. If you really have to see it, you can set up your VCR to tape them while you're gone. Maybe you could even get lucky and find a club of people that will watch them with you. Then those video tapes will come in handy.

9. There is almost always free food involved at some point in time. The more clubs you join, the more you get, and that's always a good thing when you are a poor college student.

8. You might find something new that will spark your interest in a new career, like leadership to help you in your future in dictatorship, um, wait I mean politics. Yeah, politics.

7. If you get involved in the right clubs you might get to go on some overnight trips for free (and get out of class for a legitimate reason...)

6. Being involved in clubs gives you the rare chance to control something that other students get to see. Like this. Right now. If you got involved more you could ramble like this to other students too. It's fun. Look, I have just wasted five seconds of your life. See the power I wield?

5. Getting involved makes those down times in between classes easier to deal with; especially if you have one of those fun three hour class breaks. Those very clubs will be a lifesaver by giving you something to do to pass the time, but consequently will eat up all of your time.

4.When you are involved in clubs you have a valid reason to not be at home doing those annoying chores your family makes up for you. You also do not have to put up with annoying siblings, parents, stalker friends, and/or pets.
